Christopher Moraff is a journalist, ethnographer & public speaker, and is nationally recognized for his work relating to the overdose crisis, illicit drug markets and culture, and novel psychoactive substances. He introduced fentanyl test strips (FTS) to Philadelphia in 2017, and has personally tested hundreds of street drug samples over several years for harm reduction and surveillance purposes. In 2018, Chris advised the Philadelphia’s Department of Public Health (PDPH) on the introduction and distribution of FTS, and he helped conceive the ideas surrounding Philadelphia’s drug checking program alongside PDPH and CFRSE’s Alex Krotulski in 2019. Since its inception, the drug checking program has conducted mass spectrometry testing on more than 800 street drug samples, and Chris serves in an advisory capacity for the program, and has recently developed a blueprint for a statewide drug checking network. Chris’s experiences and expertise relating to the Philadelphia drug market are invaluable to the CFSRE’s public health and harm reduction initiatives.
