What You'll Do

Are you ready to dive into the dynamic worlds of forensic science and education at the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE)? This unique role is an opportunity to combine your love of science and teaching in their respective discipline.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop your forensic science laboratory skills: Analyze mock forensic case samples using our state-of-the-art instrumentation and techniques and interpret results
  • Educate and Mentor: Provide instruction and guidance in both bench and classroom settings, to high school students interested in expanding their STEM knowledge and skills.
  • Uphold Scientific Standards: Maintain rigorous laboratory practices, ensure the integrity of data, and adhere to the highest ethical standards in all forensic analyses.


Who You'll Work With

Joining the CFSRE as an FMI Mentor means becoming part of a close-knit team of scientists and educators. You will work daily with the other mentors and report to the Program Coordinator. You will be supported with abundant resources and training, while collaborating with industry leaders and engaging with a network of professionals across various fields. Additionally, you will mentor and teach twelve high school students.


Who You Are

You are a passionate student with foundations in the scientific field that corresponds to the mentor position you are applying for. You are excited to teach students while expanding your knowledge of the forensic science field.

Required Skills:

  • Completed or currently completing relevant STEM courses.
  • Familiarity with forensic laboratory protocols, evidence handling, and chain of custody procedures.
  • Proficiency using Google Classroom, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and other common computer programs. 
  • Communication abilities to teach complex scientific information to high school students.
  • Dedication to ethical conduct and scientific integrity.
  • Safe handling of hazardous materials and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Prior mentoring or teaching experience

This is a temporary full-time employment position from Monday, May 19, 2025, through Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE) in Horsham, PA. Weekends and holidays are observed.
