Sasha Murphy is a rising senior at the University of Mary Washington (UMW) in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where she is majoring in biochemistry and minoring in neuroscience. Sasha works as both a chemistry tutor and a lab aide, and she has served as an officer of her school's American Chemical Society (ACS) student chapter for two years. Her primary scientific interests include forensic and occupational toxicology, and she is currently conducting research investigating the effects of phthalates on the structure and function of the hippocampus in mice. In addition to science, she enjoys painting, reading, and music; she plays the flute in various musical ensembles and is the principal flutist of the UMW Philharmonic. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, she intends to continue her research and pursue a graduate education in pharmacology and toxicology.
