Intern
Ms. Katya Cunha is a current senior at the New Jersey Institute of Technology studying Forensic Chemistry B.S. Since 2021, she has obtained Dean's List for every semester and will be minoring in chemistry as well. Ms. Cunha has been an active member of the Forensic Science Student Association at NJIT and American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) since 2022, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at NJIT since 2021.
Her current research interests include crime scene processing, uses of atomic absorption microscopes in drug detection, and evidence identification using forensic microscopy. Her skills include being proficient in Spanish and Portuguese, remaining focused and highly driven in different professional environments, and being familiar in conducting UV/VIS spectroscopy, gas chromatography, mass spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy.
Ms. Cunha's interest and skills in natural sciences will allow her to pursue employment in forensic lab settings, and hopefully obtain a master's in forensic science at NJIT, once the institution offers the program.
